Music
Our Music lessons are themed alongside our topic of Dinosaurs. We will build upon on the skills and knowledge in music each week.
In today's session we will be learning about beat, rhythm and musical patterns.
Task 1: Darken the room and close your eyes, what do you think could be happening during this music?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cV-p2DYK7Gc
Explain that this music represents the journey of the dinosaurs and what the lives of the animals were like. During the music we will try to imitate the rhythm and then the beat by clapping along to it. What are rhythm and beat? (The beat is the steady pulse that you feel in the tune, like a clock’s tick. It’s the beat you’d naturally clap along to, or tap your foot to. The rhythm is the actual sound or time value of the notes, which in a song would also be the same as the words). For an example sheet of the difference between rhythm and beat please see below.
Task 2: Can you use body percussion (clicking, clapping, knee tapping etc) to create a short musical pattern (beat) independently? Then, can you use the body percussion sequencing cards resource below to show your musical pattern composition? You could perform your musical pattern to your family or send a video to your class teacher via dojo.
Extensions tasks are below for an extra challenge too. |
Phonics
In Key Stage One phonics is taught in phonics groups rather than classes. The phonics groups each work at a different ability level, therefore there are different phonics videos for each group. Your child will know who their phonics teacher is, but if you need clarification please message your child's class teacher on class dojo for confirmation.
