Year 2

Maths

Our learning focus today is to compare 3D shapes by thinking about how their properties are similar and different.

Phonics

In Key Stage One phonics is taught in phonics groups rather than classes. The phonics groups each work at a different ability level, therefore there are different phonics videos for each group. Your child will know who their phonics teacher is, but if you need clarification please message your child's class teacher on class dojo for confirmation.

Please see the links below.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness focuses on paying attention to the present moment (thoughts and feelings) as well as the world around you. This can improve mental wellbeing. The link below shows a calming fire burning with the sounds of the logs crackling.

Shared reading

Shared reading involves children joining in with the reading and comprehension of a text whilst guided and supported by an adult. The text can be read by an adult if it is tricky or the child can read it themselves. The reader should be encouraged to use expression in voice and note the features of the text e.g. the title, any illustrations, the author/ illustrator and the structure of the text. Shared reading aims to improve comprehension skills known as VIPERS (vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval of information and sequencing). During shared reading the children are encouraged to ask and answer comprehension questions either verbally or in written form and any feedback about the text should be encouraged and discussed.

Please see the links below for the shared reading text and tasks.

Can you try to create a fact file about your favourite pet? Can you use adjectives (describing words) to describe your pet?

English

Today we would like you to complete your plan for your letter to Mum. Its important to plan to make sure we collect all of ideas down in an organised way so that it's easier when we start to write.

The resources for this can be found on yesterdays home learning page if you haven't used them already.

ICT/Topic

If you need more time this afternoon to complete some of your dinosaur projects then have a look at the Topic Powerpoint below to continue with your dinosaur artwork.

If you have finished or need a break from being crafty then have a go at ICT today. Your ICT challenges have been set on the programme Purple Mash.

Your Purple Mash code will have been sent to you from your class teacher via Messages.

We have set some dinosaur related tasks to do in your 2DOs folder. You will find this on the top bar next to Home.

The 2DO:2Graph was the Maths work set for Year 1 children yesterday so Year 2 you won't see this on your 2DO. The activities underneath are dinosaur related activities for today's lesson. There isn't a completion deadline set for these activities so you can pop in and do them one at a time or all this afternoon. Please click save when completed.
