Year 1

Maths

In maths we are completing our final lesson on subtraction and today we are practising subtracting a 2-digit number from another 2-digit number. You can choose your level of challenge when completing the 'know it' activity today.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness focuses on paying attention to the present moment (thoughts and feelings) as well as the world around you. This can improve mental wellbeing. The link below is a guided mindfulness session aimed at children in order to support relaxation and mental focus.

Phonics

In Key Stage One phonics is taught in phonics groups rather than classes.  Your child will know who their phonics teacher is, but if you need clarification please message your child's class teacher on class dojo for confirmation.

Please see the links below to watch today's phonics lesson.

English

Today in English we are going to be learning about the features of a poem.

Topic

We are learning to:

  • Observe or handle evidence to ask questions and find answers to questions about the past.
  • Use artefacts, pictures, stories, online sources and databases to find out about the past.
  • I can label a picture.

Which dinosaur do you think we are going to learn more about today?

What clues can you see in this picture to help you?

How many legs does this dinosaur have?

Does it have any spines, horns or crests?

Does it have a long neck or long tail?

Is this dinosaur a stegosaurus? How do you know?

Can you guess what it is?

Click on the link to see if you're right. Watch the short video to find out more information about this dinosaur. You could write some facts down to remind you.

Let's represent the past, you could:-

  • Draw and label the different parts of the dinosaur. e.g horns, 2 long legs, very long neck, eats meat.
  • Make a model of your dinosaur out of boxes. You could paint your model the different colours of the dinosaur too.
  • Use Lego bricks or other construction bricks to build your dinosaur. Cut up labels to add around the edge of your model.
  • Collage the dinosaur, add a title and labels around the dinosaurs body.

Share your pictures with us at school.

Story time

Each day there will be a story or poem read to the children by a member of the Key Stage One team.

Please see the link below for the story today. We hope you enjoy it.
