Welcome to Year 5 and 6 - 2026-27

A warm welcome to the year 5 and 6 page. Prepare to enter our wonderful world where anything and everything is possible and the sky really is the limit!

We are excitedly looking forward to the autumn term when our children will join their new classes and continue to develop their independent learning skills and progress towards the next step in their learning journey. During the autumn term, in science, we will be learning about Evolution and Inheritance, and Electricity. This will include learning about how creatures have evolved and adapted to their habitats over time; how human traits are passed down through generations; how electrical circuits work and much more. We will use the JK Rowling novel, 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' as a stimulus for many pieces of writing. This is sur ignite the children's imagination!

In history, year 5 and 6 will learn all about the Vikings - how they used to live, where the Viking period fits into history's timeline, Viking beliefs and customs, and other exciting aspects. In geography, we will be finding out about mountains around the world.

During this term, we will continue to develop the children's learning behaviours so that they can get the most out of every day at school. We will be embedding the School's Core Values: Be Kind, Be Courageous and be Respectful, as well as nurturing a love of learning and building our school learning behaviours of: Resourcefulness, Resilience, Reflectiveness, Reciprocity and Responsibility.
