Welcome to Year 5 and 6 - 2025-26

A warm welcome to the year 5 and 6 page. Prepare to enter our wonderful world where anything and everything is possible and the sky really is the limit!

We are excitedly looking forward to the Summer term when our children will continue to develop their independent learning skills and progress towards the next step in their learning journey. During the Summer term, in science, we will be learning about States of Matter and the Circulatory System. This will include learning about solids, liquids and gases; processes such as evaporation and condensation; how the lungs, heart and blood work to keep our body working each and every day and much more. We will use stories from Ancient Greek myths as stimuli. 

In history, year 5 and 6 will learn all about the Aztecs - how they used to live, where the Aztec period fits into history's timeline, Aztec beliefs and customs, and other exciting topics. In geography, we will be finding out about our local area and comparing it with that of a contrasting locality: Chesterfield.

In Literacy, we will be studying the narrative poem, The Highwayman and using this as a stimulus for exciting pieces of writing.

During this term, we will continue to develop the children's learning behaviours so that they can get the most out of every day at school. We will be embedding the School's Core Values: Be Kind, Be Courageous and be Respectful, as well as nurturing a love of learning and building our school learning behaviours of: Resourcefulness, Resilience, Reflectiveness, Reciprocity and Responsibility.
