The Gingerbread Man - Autumn 2
Welcome to Autumn term 2 at Homefields Nursery. Please see below for what we will be learning about this half term.
Diwali
On Thursday 9th and Friday 10th November, the children will be learning about Diwali.
The children will learn about the festival and why it is a special time for themselves or for some of their friends.
During these two days the children will create Rangoli patterns, a clay diva pot and also a paper lantern.

The Gingerbread Man
The first topic this half term will be the Gingerbread Man topic. The children will learn the story and join in with repeated refrains and re-tell it through small world play and role-play.
The children will take part in a range of learning experiences linked to the story including, taking part in a Gingerbread taste test, taking part in a science experiment to see what would happen to the Gingerbread Man if he got wet and also using our language skills to use and understand prepositions by moving the Gingerbread Man around a story set.

Stick Man
During the Stick Man topic, we will be learning the story Stick Man by Julia Donaldson. The children will have the opportunity to join in with repeated refrains and to re-tell the story through small world play and role play.
The children will be learning about their family tree and the people that are important to them. They will learn that families come in different shapes and sizes but are all special!
The children will be taking part in lots of fun activities linked to the story including creating their own model Stick Man by rolling paper and attaching features, ordering objects by length and height and taking part in a science experiment to free Stick Man from the ice!!
The children will also go on a "Stick Man" walk on to the big school field to look at the different trees and maybe even do a spot of tree climbing!! (Do not worry...... we only climb on the lowest branch and it is fully supervised by an adult.)

Winter and Christmas
We will finish this half term with a topic about Winter and Christmas.
The children will explore Winter. They will learn about the changes that occur in this season and will be encouraged to look for signs of Winter during outside play.
The children will use their creative skills to create frosty pictures and model snow men.
The children will learn about Christmas and find out why it is a special time for themselves or for some of their friends. The children will practise their emergent writing by making a list to Santa, they will act in role in Santa's workshop, they will learn many festive songs and create some super decorations that you can treasure forever!
