Design and Technology

At Homefields Primary School, Design and Technology provides our children with the understanding of how and why things around them work. The pupils use creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. They consider their own and others’ needs, wants and values when designing.

We use a skills-based approach to help us plan the work children will do and, wherever possible, we try to ensure that work in Design and Technology is creative and cross-curricular. These units provide a range of challenges and experiences for the children with an insight into the deign world around them.

The activities help the children to design, make, evaluate and apply their knowledge and skills to solve practical problems, including food technology. Children draw on knowledge of subjects such as Science, Mathematics, History and Geography to generate ideas, leading to planning, making and testing their work.

Through evaluation of past and present design and technology, the children develop critical understanding of its impact on the daily life and the wider world.
