Castles - Summer 1

Sense of Place Week!

During the first week of the Summer Term, the children will be taking part in 'Sense of Place Week', along with the rest of the school. Throughout the week, we will be investigating the local history and geography of Chellaston and finding out about the homes and lives of people in the past. The children have also been invited to bring in photos of themselves, from when they were younger to spark conversations about their personal history.

Castles

For the rest of the half-term, our topic theme is Castles.

We will begin by exploring the castle setting in the story 'Jim and the Beanstalk', an alternative version of the classic, in which Jim helps the giant. We will then take a journey into the past, finding out about castle structures, as well as investigating different job roles within castle life. From creating their own model castles to mediaeval dancing, the children will be immersed in imaginative experiences to relive the past.
